Ceceda is a small village in Asturias. This is where our house and finca are. On this page volunteers
will find information - but the site is still under construction so please be patient.
We live in a farmhouse with 2 ha of land in Asturias. We have
4 to 6 donkeys and 6 to 9 dogs, as we are volunteers for the local dog shelter and the donkey sanctuary nearby. And several
cats of course.
Apple trees, hazelnuts, several other fruit trees, and a vegetable garden.
Asturias
is in the North of Spain, between Galicia and Cantabria (and then Basque country). This region is called the Costa Verde and
as you can imagine it looks more like Scotland than what most people expect when thinking of Spain.
It's an ideal
area for hiking, mountain walking (Picos de Europa!), mountain climbing, canoeing and of course we also have beaches (no sun
guarantee though). Our house is near the woods where you are mostly alone (with the dogs). 1km out of a small village and
4 km from a larger village (Nava). Oviedo is at 30 km and Gijon at 55 km. Of course you can arrange to take a few days off
to go hiking in the Picos or Redes Park or walk part of the Camino de Santiago - we are very flexible.
Accommodation
in a separate part of the house for volunteers - the one bathroom and the kitchen are shared though. Food is vegetarian, plus
fish (do fishtarians exist?). If you are a meateater you'll have to cook it yourself ;). We have Wi-fi so take your laptop.
We are also couchsurfing hosts. If you have a driving license, you can borrow the small car.
Work
April - May 2009: fencing and digging over the vegetable patch, concreting and making a little dog-house. Collect the remaing
firewood from the meadows and cut it. Apart from the normal ongoing work with the animals.
